Ghana's Economic Surge: Digital Services at the Helm

In a significant economic development, Ghana's growth rate accelerated during the fourth quarter of the past year, primarily due to advancements in telecommunications and digital services, as reported by the national statistics agency on Tuesday.

According to the latest data, the country's GDP expanded by 5.8% year-on-year in Q4, overtaking the 4.0% growth recorded in the comparable period of 2024. The surge was largely attributed to the services sector's remarkable 8.6% growth and a 5.3% increase in agriculture, noted government statistician Alhassan Iddrisu, though the industrial sector lagged with a modest 1.9% expansion.

Iddrisu highlighted that the services sector, which includes digital services, telecommunications, and data-related activities, forms over half of Ghana's GDP. Economic growth rose to 6.0% for 2025 from 5.8% in 2024, signaling robust momentum. However, central bank governor Johnson Asiama expressed concerns about potential impacts from Middle East tensions on Ghana's economic progress.
