Amidst the ongoing conflict in Iran, Russia has reported massive earnings from its fossil fuel exports, pocketing nearly USD 7 billion. According to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air, Russian daily revenue from these exports has surged by an average of 14% since February.
The findings, released Thursday by Urgewald, a German non-profit critical of fossil fuel financing, highlight the economic benefits Russia is accruing. The organization's study tracks Russian fossil fuel export revenues in real time, linking the profits to the geopolitical turmoil involving Iran.
Urgewald and other advocacy groups are calling for stricter sanctions on Russia's fossil fuel industry. These pleas come as the Trump administration deliberates on whether to ease restrictions, potentially influencing global energy markets.
