India's Coal Reserves Steady Amid Global Gas Turmoil
India has ample coal reserves to handle an expected demand surge due to summer heat and gas supply disruptions from the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran. Current reserves stand at 210 million metric tons, providing a buffer for energy supply mainly sourced from coal, integral to India's electricity generation.
In light of escalating global tensions, India has declared its coal reserves sufficient to manage an anticipated spike in energy demand. This development follows natural gas supply disruptions resulting from the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran. The Coal Ministry has assured the nation of its capability to withstand the current energy challenges.
Currently, India's coal stockpile is at a considerable 210 million metric tons, reportedly ample for 88 days of consumption. Coal remains vital for generating about 75% of the country's electricity, even as India aggressively expands its renewable energy portfolio.
Acknowledging the Middle East conflict's impact on natural gas supplies, India anticipates increased coal utilization during the impending summer. The nation bolstered its pithead stock at Coal India to a record 121.4 million tons, ensuring its readiness to address energy supply demands.
