India has issued an urgent call for citizens to save energy, as global disruptions threaten its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply lines. The world's second-largest LPG importer has boosted domestic output by 25% to cater to its 333 million households, as federal authorities invoke emergency measures.

Despite increased production, businesses such as restaurants and hotels are feeling the pinch, driven in part by misinformation-fueled panic booking and hoarding. Global shipping disruptions, primarily due to tensions in the Gulf, have severely impacted India's crude and gas imports, with 90% of LPG shipments dependent on Middle Eastern countries.

While India consumed 33.15 million metric tons of cooking gas last year, it has now shifted to alternative sources, including Russian crude, following a U.S. sanctions waiver. Authorities emphasize that India's fuel demand is currently met, but continue to monitor global tensions to maintain steady fuel supplies.
