Drone Strike Sparks Anxiety: Ruwais Refinery Shutdown in Wake of Conflict
Abu Dhabi's ADNOC shut its Ruwais refinery due to a fire caused by a drone strike, tied to U.S.-Israeli hostilities with Iran. The shutdown is a precaution, though other operations continue normally. No injuries were reported, and authorities swiftly responded to manage the situation.
Abu Dhabi's oil titan, ADNOC, has temporarily closed its Ruwais refinery following a drone strike that ignited a fire, reportedly linked to the ongoing U.S.-Israeli conflict involving Iran. Local authorities confirmed the incident but noted no casualties occurred.
The Ruwais complex, known for processing up to 922,000 barrels of oil daily, remains pivotal to Abu Dhabi's downstream operations, hosting major chemical and industrial plants. Despite the refinery's shutdown as a safety precaution, other site operations persist unimpeded.
Officials from ADNOC, the Abu Dhabi Media Office, and the UAE foreign ministry were unavailable for further commentary at the time of the incident, as reported by Reuters.
