During the International Women's Day celebration in Kohima, Nagaland Minister for Forest, Environment, and Climate Change C L John called for stronger collective action against gender-based violence and unequal opportunities. His speech highlighted the importance of addressing these issues that hinder women's empowerment.
The event, organized by the Department of Social Welfare and other local agencies, celebrated women's achievements while recognizing the vital role Naga women play in society. John emphasized the progress in governance and leadership, noting the participation of women in the state assembly and the Rajya Sabha.
Additionally, the programme included discussions on initiatives like the Mission Shakti scheme and NSCW Awards, aimed at promoting women's safety, security, and recognition. However, the minister stressed the urgent need to tackle gender-based violence to ensure equal opportunities for all.
