The row over the 'Phansi Ghar' within the Delhi Legislative Assembly escalated as the Committee of Privileges examined former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, and former Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla. The controversy centers on claims made about the structure's authenticity, inaugurated on August 9, 2022.
Despite agreeing to appear, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia missed the hearing. The Committee, led by Chairperson Pradyuman Singh Rajput, criticized the absences and lack of evidence provided by the officials regarding the controversial inauguration of the 'Phansi Ghar'.
As accusations of misleading the public proliferate, the Speaker, Vijender Gupta, stressed that these claims could potentially misguide public perceptions on governance and education. The Committee will deliberate further, focusing on accountability for not complying with the summons and the absence of factual documentation.
