Locked Away: Mother and Daughter's Two-Year Ordeal in Latur

In a shocking incident from Latur, Maharashtra, a 60-year-old woman and her daughter were reportedly confined to a room for two years by the woman's son, officials revealed. The rescue was conducted by police and social workers after receiving credible information about their plight.

Relatives claimed the women were mentally unwell and troubled neighbors by throwing stones, leading to their confinement. The room emitted a foul odor and was littered with hundreds of empty plastic bottles. The case unraveled in Ratnapur Nagar, near Pakharsangvi village, just 5 km from Latur city.

Social activist Venkat Panhale, informed by a tip-off, involved the police after verifying the facts. The Anti-Human Trafficking Cell acted swiftly, freeing the women. Although the son, Anjum Shoukat Shaikh, presented medical records, and promised better care, authorities released the women to their family's custody without filing a legal case.
