Controversy has erupted in the popular tourist town of Munnar, after a Mumbai-based visitor, Janvi, alleged harassment by a group of local taxi drivers. Her account, shared via a video on social media, has intensified discussions around traveler safety in Kerala.
The incident reportedly occurred as Janvi attempted to use an online taxi service, which local unions oppose. Subsequently, a police investigation was launched, with charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita filed against the identifiable drivers.
In response to the incident, two police officers have been suspended pending further inquiry. State Tourism Minister P A Mohammed Riyas condemned the harassment, stressing the importance of safeguarding Kerala's reputation as a safe travel destination.
