Nexperia's Chip Supply Suspension: Global Auto Industry on Edge
Dutch chipmaker Nexperia has halted wafer supplies to its Chinese plant due to payment disputes, exacerbating global supply concerns. This disruption, amid geopolitical tensions and industry warnings, could significantly impact automotive sectors. Nexperia seeks resolutions while maintaining a presence in China.
Dutch chipmaker Nexperia has taken a drastic step by suspending the supply of wafers to its assembly plant in China, a move that has alarmed automakers worldwide. The decision, outlined in a customer letter reviewed by Reuters, cites payment disputes as the underlying cause.
The suspension targets Nexperia's facility in Dongguan, Guangdong province, following a fallout with local management over unmet contractual payment terms. The Dutch government recently assumed control of Nexperia from Chinese owner Wingtech Technology, ousting the Chinese CEO amid security concerns.
Despite the stoppage, Nexperia remains committed to maintaining operations in China and is exploring alternative strategies to sustain customer supplies. European discussions are ongoing to find a resolution, highlighting the broader geopolitical implications affecting the semiconductor industry.
