New Zealand has taken a major step in sanctioning Russia's oil industry by expanding restrictions on its shadow fleet. The announcement was made during a meeting with the Nordic 5 foreign ministers in Stockholm.
Foreign Minister Winston Peters stated that the sanctions will affect 65 shadow fleet vessels and actors from countries including Belarus, Iran, and North Korea, focusing on refining and transporting Russian oil.
The action targets a network involved in the secretive trade of sanctioned oil, which undermines global efforts to halt funding for Russia's activities. This decisive step aligns with international moves to pressure Russia into negotiations regarding its ongoing conflict.
