In a blow to Maharashtra's Latur district, unseasonal heavy rains wreaked havoc in the Renapur tehsil, damaging kharif and newly-sown rabi crops. The late-night deluge swept away heaps of harvested soybean and farm equipment in several villages.
Farmers like Suresh Chavan reportedly lost entire soybean harvests with the government's promised assistance yet to be delivered. Recent heavy rains compounded prior September flood damage to crops, leading to widespread despair among the agricultural community.
Additionally, transportation disruptions were notable as key roads remained closed; a bridge over the Ghansargav stream required urgent repair. Officials responded by releasing water from the Renapur irrigation project to mitigate further flooding risks.
