Naftoport Expands To Meet Seaborne Oil Demand

Poland's Naftoport is set to enhance its capacity at the Gdansk oil terminal with the construction of a new jetty, poised to handle supertankers. This development aims to alleviate stress on existing infrastructure and support German clients' full transition to seaborne oil supplies.

Aimed at safeguarding shipping volumes and mitigating interruptions due to maintenance, the construction of this jetty will commence this year. Expected to complete in the second half of 2028, it promises to boost the terminal's annual capacity to 49 million metric tons. Daniel Swietochowski, the CEO of Polish pipeline operator PERN, affirmed ongoing discussions with clients regarding spot deliveries.

With PERN's majority stake in Naftoport, the facility has been handling maximum capacity since 2023, processing record volumes as the northern Druzhba pipeline users pivot to sea routes. The new infrastructure will cover demand from Germany's Schwedt and Leuna refineries amid evolving geopolitical landscapes post-Russian oil dependencies.
