In a tragic turn of events, three children have drowned in separate incidents during the Chhath Puja festivities in Jharkhand's Hazaribag and Garhwa districts, according to police reports on Monday.
Two young girls, Gungun Kumari and Rupa Tiwari, lost their lives in a pond in Hazaribag's Keredari area on Sunday evening, as confirmed by local authorities. Meanwhile, a 3-year-old boy, Rahul Kumar, drowned in the Danro river in Garhwa on Monday afternoon.
The alarming rise in drowning incidents during the festival has pushed the death toll to nine, forcing residents and authorities to reconsider safety measures during the celebrations.
