Azerbaijan Lifts Cargo Restrictions: A Step Towards Lasting Peace with Armenia
Azerbaijan has lifted all cargo transit restrictions to Armenia, indicating improved relations between the two countries. This marks the first Kazakh grain shipment via Azerbaijan to Armenia since the Soviet era. The move is seen as a practical step toward peace and economic collaboration in the region.
Azerbaijan has lifted its restrictions on cargo transit to Armenia, signaling improved relations between the former adversaries after decades of conflict. This development was announced by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during a meeting with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Astana.
The transit of Kazakh grain through Azerbaijan to Armenia is the first since the final days of the Soviet Union, marking a departure from tension towards reconciliation. Aliyev emphasized that these actions indicate peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia is becoming a reality, not just a theoretical agreement.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's spokesperson described Aliyev's decision as crucial for boosting regional communication and fostering trust between the nations. The peace deal, achieved through U.S. mediation, is poised to transform the South Caucasus by enhancing energy exports and economic ties.
