AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized at a recent event that religion exists for the welfare of humanity and not the other way around. He communicated this message during the Amrit Mahotsava, celebrating Dr. Basavalinga Pattadevaru Mahaswamiji's 75th birth anniversary in Bhalki, Bidar district.
Kharge highlighted that 12th-century reformer Basavanna denounced societal structures like Manuwada and Chaturvarna, promoting a new social order centered on unity across castes. Basavanna’s creation of the Anubhava Mantapa, described as the first spiritual parliament, featured leaders from diverse communities.
Kharge cautioned against diminishing Basavanna's teachings, equating potential neglect to the decline of Buddhism in India. Declaring his adherence to humanist scholars like Buddha and Ambedkar, he remarked that as a politician, his words might be misconstrued, hence his deliberate carefulness in public discourse.
