The grand construction of chariots for the renowned Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath commenced on Monday, aligning with the auspicious festival of Akshaya Tritiya. Skilled 'Biswakarma Sevak' artisans initiated the process by striking the first log with a golden axe, following a ceremonial yagna and divine approval from the 'Agnya Mala'.
Officials reported the utilization of 742 wooden logs for the towering 45.6 ft Nandighosh chariot of Lord Jagannath, with hundreds of logs designated for the chariots of Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra. A dedicated team of over 200 craftsmen, including carpenters and artists, will undertake the detailed construction and embellishment work.
The Akshaya Tritiya festivities also mark the start of the 42-day Chandan Yatra, which involves intricate rituals and boat cruises at the Narendra Tirtha tank. Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik celebrated the commencement by creating a vibrant sand sculpture of the deities on Puri Beach, amplifying the festive spirit.
