In a fervent appeal during Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, Samajwadi Party leader Ramji Lal Suman highlighted the sensitive issue surrounding the administration of the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya. Suman demanded that the temple's management be transferred to followers of Buddhism, citing its profound religious and cultural significance.

The Mahabodhi Temple is a revered World Heritage Site, believed to be the location where Gautam Buddha achieved enlightenment. Suman pointed out that approximately 55 crore people globally follow Buddhism, making it crucial to adhere to conventional practices in religious site management.

He questioned the inclusivity of the temple's administrative committee, drawing parallels with other religious institutions. Suman also raised concerns over the financial management of the temple, which brings in substantial revenue. Furthermore, he proposed renaming Gaya's airport in tribute to Gautam Buddha, emphasizing the cultural and religious importance of such recognition.
