Unveiling Bihar's Hidden Archaeological Treasures: ASI's Ambitious Survey

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has undertaken a comprehensive village-to-village survey in Bihar, aiming to uncover sites with archaeological significance. According to Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, 42 sites in Lakhisarai district and 144 sites in Samastipur district were identified in the past three years.
During a recent session in the Lok Sabha, the minister shared that Rs 15 crore has been allocated for the preservation of monitored heritage sites in Bihar for the current fiscal year. These funds will support the maintenance and conservation of the 70 protected monuments throughout the state.
Bihar is home to numerous sites of national importance, including the ancient Nalanda University, Barabar Caves, and the Tomb of Sher Shah Suri, which are overseen by the Patna Circle of the ASI. This initiative highlights the ongoing efforts to safeguard India's rich and diverse cultural heritage.
