Boosting Northeast: NEC Unleashes Crores for Cultural and Infrastructure Growth

In a strategic move to invigorate the Northeast region, the North Eastern Council (NEC) has announced an allocation of Rs 67.41 crore for various developmental projects in Meghalaya and beyond. The funds aim to bolster infrastructure, education, tourism, and cultural initiatives, pivotal in fostering balanced regional growth.
Among the highlighted projects is the construction of a bridge over the Lunar river, connecting Khaddum and Brichyrnot, poised to enhance rural connectivity and access in East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya. Additionally, a cultural complex at Seng Khasi Ri Raid Laban in Shillong is being developed, reflecting the NEC's commitment to preserving and promoting indigenous cultural traditions.
These allocations are complemented by Rs 30.07 lakh for regional institutions, facilitating ventures in sustainable agriculture, AI-based farming, and entrepreneurship. Key institutions like IIT Guwahati and IIM Shillong are leading various projects. NEC's endeavors also encompass non-project activities, nurturing cultural exchange, tourism, and youth engagement through festivals and skill development programs.
