A woman named Vijisha, critically injured during the Attukal Pongala festival in Thiruvananthapuram, tragically passed away in a hospital. This incident, which occurred due to the festival's alleged lack of safety measures, has fueled criticism against the authorities responsible for the event.

While preparing the traditional pongala offering, Vijisha suffered severe burns from an earthen hearth positioned too closely to others. Despite immediate medical attention and transfers to two hospitals, she could not survive her injuries. Family members claim that preventable neglect contributed to the tragedy.
