The Haryana Human Rights Commission has taken decisive action following a fatal incident at the Surajkund International Crafts Mela, pressing for heightened safety measures at public gatherings. The commission's chairperson, Justice Lalit Batra, and members Kuldip Jain and Deep Bhatia have issued a call for detailed reports from relevant authorities.
In a tragic accident on February 7, a high-speed pendulum ride at the Surajkund Mela collapsed, resulting in the death of Inspector Jagdish Prasad and injuries to twelve attendees. The commission emphasized that a 'fair must be fair in all perspectives', insisting on safety, accessibility, and accountability.
The commission mandates multidisciplinary technical committee approvals before event commencements, third-party safety audits, and deployment of emergency response teams. The investigation seeks comprehensive reports from authorities by April 7, highlighting the need to address safety oversights and safeguard visitor welfare.
