In a tragic turn of events, eight individuals lost their lives in an explosion at a fireworks store in eastern China's Jiangsu province. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, just as the nation prepared for Lunar New Year celebrations.
Authorities attribute the disaster to a local resident who improperly set off fireworks near the store, causing a devastating fire. Donghai county officials have yet to release further details about the incident. Although fireworks have been a New Year tradition, they face growing scrutiny due to safety and environmental concerns.
The Ministry of Emergency Management responded by urging stricter oversight on the entire fireworks supply chain. Local governments have been called upon to eliminate any oversight gaps to ensure public safety during the forthcoming Spring Festival.
