Historic Exposition: Sacred Relics of Lord Buddha Unveiled in Sri Lanka
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake inaugurated the display of sacred Devnimori relics of Lord Buddha from India. Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake officially unveiled the sacred Devnimori relics of Lord Buddha on Wednesday, marking a significant religious and cultural event in Colombo.
The relics, sourced from India, commenced their journey from the historic Devnimori site in Gujarat, arriving in Colombo via Delhi. The sacred artifacts, which include 'asthi' (holy ashes) of Buddha, were presented to the public amid religious ceremonies at the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya temple.
The exposition, coinciding with Sri Lanka's 78th Independence Day, was heralded as a landmark event strengthening ties between India and Sri Lanka. President Dissanayake’s recent interactions with India's Prime Minister Modi facilitated the arrival of these venerated relics in Sri Lanka for the very first time.
