The highly anticipated courtroom drama 'HAQ', featuring Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam, finds itself entangled in legal turmoil just weeks before its scheduled release. The daughter of Shah Bano, Siddiqua Begum, has issued a legal notice to the filmmakers, urging them to halt the film's publication and promotion due to alleged unauthorized portrayal of her mother's life.
Siddiqua Begum's complaint claims that 'HAQ', directed by Suparn Verma, portrays the late Shah Bano Begum's personal life without the necessary consent from her legal heirs. The notice, addressed to the film’s producers Junglee Pictures and Baweja Studios, as well as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), demands immediate action to restrain the film’s release.
'HAQ' is inspired by the landmark 1985 Supreme Court case Mohd. Ahmed Khan vs Shah Bano Begum, pivotal in advancing women's rights in India. The film, also starring Vartika Singh and Danish Husain, looks to explore the intricacies of this legal battle. It is slated for a November 7 release under the production of Vineet Jain and team.
