In a significant gesture, a 76-year-old man in Madhya Pradesh's Barwani district was accorded a 'guard of honour' as part of an initiative to honor organ donors, officials revealed. The deceased, Praveen Joshi, had pledged to donate his body, said Dr. Surekha Jamre, Chief Medical and Health Officer.
This ceremony marked only the second time such an honor was bestowed upon a body donor in Barwani, reflecting the region's growing recognition of selfless acts of organ donation. An official explained that the ritual involves uniformed personnel saluting the deceased in a traditional, dignified manner.
Joshi, a Gujarat native living alone in Barwani for 30 years, was known for applying henna on women's hands using a unique stencil technique. His body was transported to a hospital in Indore, underscoring the government's resolve to honor those contributing to medical science.
