In a heated exchange of words, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma publicly criticized Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge for his remarks about the Northeastern state's talent pool, particularly in relation to setting up large industries. Sarma dismissed Kharge's comments as an insult to the youth of Assam and revealed possible legal actions in response.
Sarma's frustration extended to the opposition Congress party, which he accused of staying silent on Kharge's offending statement. He insisted that the allegations made by Kharge were disrespectful and not based on factual evidence regarding the capabilities of Assamese youth in contributing to industrial growth.
Kharge's controversial comments suggested that investment opportunities intended for Karnataka were being unfairly redirected to other states such as Gujarat and Assam, following pressure from the central government. Sarma's government is deliberating on whether a legal case could be pursued to address the minister's inflammatory claims.
