On Saturday, students of Hansraj College organized a protest against the administration's restrictions on their college festival, which they claim is unjust. The protest was spearheaded by the students' union, the Students' Federation of India (SFI), and other societies, demanding that the college fest should not be restricted to concluding before 6 p.m.
Srijan, Secretary of the SFI Hansraj Unit, addressed the gathering and accused the administration of 'authoritarian functioning.' Protestors highlighted the inconsistency of allowing a private wedding event to continue late into the night on campus, questioning why their fest must adhere to stricter rules.
Further allegations were raised about the administration's denial of artist invitations, inadequate space allocation, and unfulfilled financial commitments for the event. However, a college official explained that the restrictions are for crowd management, citing security concerns if celebrities are invited. Despite these explanations, student leaders Abhijit Singh and Ishika vowed to persist with their protest for as long as it takes to achieve their demands.
