A 12-year-old was taken into custody in connection with the tragic death of classmate Khimberly Zavaleta Chuquipa, authorities reported Friday. The girl died after being struck in the head with a metal water bottle during a bullying incident at her school in Los Angeles.
The incident took place on February 17 at Reseda Charter High School, and Khimberly passed away on February 25 following complications from emergency brain surgery. Khimberly's family alleges a long pattern of harassment that went unaddressed by school officials.
Attorney Robert Glassman emphasized that while an arrest is crucial, the focus must also extend to institutional accountability in preventing such tragedies. Calls for comprehensive measures to protect students are intensifying amid these developments.
