The Delhi government has announced a landmark move to grant recognition to private unaided schools operating in non-conforming areas. This decision is set to create nearly 20,000 new seats for students from economically weaker sections, disadvantaged groups, and children with special needs, providing them greater access to education.
Education Minister Ashish Sood revealed the plan aims to solve a decade-old challenge faced by many schools operating without formal recognition due to bureaucratic hurdles imposed by previous administrations. The reform emphasizes fairness and justice for children and educational institutions, marking a significant administrative advancement.
The initiative is also designed to ensure schools comply with relevant acts such as the Delhi School Education Act and the Right to Education Act. Schools must submit extensive documentation by November 2025 to qualify for recognition. Non-compliance could lead to significant penalties, reinforcing the government's commitment to transparency and accountability in education governance.
