Pope Leo XIV has called on Catholic teachers to shift their focus from pre-professional outcomes to nurturing students' spiritual lives and using technology responsibly. His directives come amidst a Holy Year celebration that drew thousands to Rome.
During a Mass for Jubilee pilgrims, Leo updated the 1965 Vatican document on Catholic education priorities. He underscored that parents are the primary educators, and schools should work alongside them, not replace them. Catholic educators must serve as role models, reinforcing values beyond contractual obligations.
Emphasizing dignity and the common good over utilitarian measures, Leo highlighted Pope Francis's priorities, adding that educators should foster spirituality, use non-violent language, and ensure technology, including AI, respects human dignity. He defined Catholic schools as spaces where faith intermingles with culture and life.
