Boosting Trade: The Role of Customs Facilitation in India's Competitiveness

India's trade competitiveness hinges on the effective use of customs facilitation measures, as emphasized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Friday. During a webinar, Vaibhav Vohra, Chairman of CII Western region Subcommittee on International Trade & Investment, underscored the importance of programs like the Authorised Economic Operator and duty deferment schemes.

Such initiatives, according to Vohra, could substantially improve operational efficiency and lower transaction costs. The webinar, organized by the CII in partnership with the Directorate General of Taxpayer Services in Mumbai, focused on customs facilitation measures aimed at simplifying trade processes and enhancing compliance.

Sumit Kumar from the Directorate General of Taxpayer Services highlighted the importance of predictability in trade processes, noting that industry dialog and outreach are crucial for successful reform implementation. The event drew participants from various sectors, with discussions addressing the challenges and promoting awareness of these vital schemes.
