In a tragic turn of events, a 50-year-old driver for the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) set himself ablaze amid ongoing employee protests in Warangal district. This desperate act occurred during a public demonstration supporting employee demands, including the merger of TSRTC with the state government.
The driver, identified as Shankar Goud, allegedly doused himself with petrol in front of the Narsampet bus stand before setting himself on fire. He suffered critical burn injuries and was subsequently rushed to MGM Hospital in Warangal for immediate treatment.
The protests mark the second day of an indefinite strike by TSRTC employees, significantly impacting public transportation and compelling residents to turn to private transport. Demonstrations have erupted statewide as workers push for a list of 32 demands, further underscoring the tension between employees and government authorities.
