A dramatic escape unfolded as a state-run Shivshahi bus caught fire near Thane railway station in Maharashtra on Thursday afternoon. All 17 occupants, including 14 passengers, an ST employee, the driver, and the conductor, escaped unharmed.

The incident, which took place around 1.30 pm, led to chaos on the busy SATIS bridge, a primary transport hub for Thane Municipal Transport and state buses. Videos on social media captured the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation bus engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke billowing.

Yasin Tadvi, chief of Thane Municipal Corporation's Regional Disaster Management Cell, reported that the driver raised an alarm upon seeing smoke in the engine. Emergency teams swiftly responded, and traffic was halted on the elevated deck. The fire was extinguished by 2.30 pm, and a probe is ongoing to determine the cause.
