In a commendable feat on Earth Day 2026, Smiling Tree, a prominent environmental NGO in India, announced its achievement of planting over 11 lakh saplings through a series of more than 5,000 environmental events. Founded by Dr. Mukesh Kwatra, the organization has become a beacon of change, thanks to the tireless dedication of young eco-activists Aarav and Alina Kwatra.
The organization has made a significant impact by mobilizing communities, particularly in Delhi-NCR, to actively participate in sustainability efforts. Their 'adopt a plant' philosophy ensures each sapling is nurtured, furthering a lasting ecological impact rather than short-lived plantation efforts. Innovative programs, including vertical gardens from recycled plastics and anti-plastic campaigns, have engaged citizens in sustainable living practices.
As part of its celebrations, Smiling Tree organized a plantation drive at Modern School, Barakhamba Road, fostering environmental consciousness among students. Collaborating with the Cluster Innovation Centre, University of Delhi, they led a large-scale Environment Awareness Campaign to curb plastic use and promote sustainable habits, resonating with the Earth Day 2026 theme 'Our Power, Our Planet'.
