A tragic accident claimed the life of 19-year-old Jinisha Khandelwal at the Bhiwandi Road railway station in Maharashtra's Thane district. The incident unfolded on Tuesday evening as Jinisha, returning from a family wedding in Pune, attempted to alight from a slowing train, only to fall fatally between the coach and the platform.
Dombivili Government Railway Police senior inspector Babasaheb Thorat reported that Jinisha sustained critical head injuries and was declared dead upon reaching a nearby hospital. Eyewitness accounts describe a chaotic scene, with passengers rushing to board the train even before it came to a halt, exacerbating the tragedy as they obstructed disembarking passengers.
A case of accidental death has been registered by the police, who continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. Meanwhile, Jinisha's family grieves her sudden loss, and the incident highlights ongoing safety concerns at railway stations.
