Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday highlighted India’s efforts to secure preferential trade access with the United States, describing India’s economic position as a "very sweet spot" among emerging economies. Goyal emphasized the need for India to achieve the best possible trade deal compared to its competitors.

During recent WTO Ministerial engagements, which spanned four days, crucial discussions occurred across seven key areas, including WTO reform and fisheries subsidies. Notably, agreements were reached to assimilate smaller economies better into the multilateral trading system, focusing on logistics and border processes.

Goyal also conducted extensive diplomatic meetings to foster trade partnerships, notably with Canada and New Zealand. Against the backdrop of global conflicts and trade interruptions, Goyal affirmed India’s stability in food and energy security, acknowledging challenges but noting competent mitigation measures.
