Tension escalated at the borders of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana on Wednesday as a revised entry tax on vehicles triggered protests, causing severe traffic disruptions.
Protestors, especially from Punjab, staged 'chaka jam' at Garmoda toll in Bilaspur district, demanding exemptions for vehicles registered in border districts and questioning why the entry tax persists despite a rollback announcement.
Authorities assured protestors the issue would be addressed within ten days, leading to the lifting of blockades. However, traffic chaos continued in other areas, with further protests and threats to boycott Himachal's tourism season.
