Maharashtra's Bold Path to Infrastructure and Industrial Transformation

The Maharashtra state government, led by Industries Minister Uday Samant, has allocated Rs 12,000 crore from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's fixed deposits for infrastructure projects in Mumbai. This move underscores the administration's dedication to transparency and effective project execution in the region. Samant addressed the state assembly, noting a significant increase in BMC's fixed deposits from Rs 62,195 crore in 2017 to Rs 91,690 crore in 2022, followed by a decrease to Rs 81,134 crore by 2026.

Samant provided an overview of the progress in various phases of development, revealing high completion rates—79.74% for Phase I and 56.52% for Phase II, covering 1,048 roads over 278.83 km in Mumbai. Transparency efforts were emphasized, citing the Mithi River project's Rs 65-crore irregularity uncovering, which resulted in actions against 13 officials and suspension of older tenders.

In terms of industrial growth, the state achieved substantial agreements, with MoUs escalating from Rs 80,588 crore in 2022 to Rs 31.25 lakh crore in 2026. Samant highlighted Maharashtra's impressive foreign direct investment involvement and advanced project implementation rates. The minister also addressed foreign company departures, assuring that all agreements endure rigorous scrutiny and underscoring Maharashtra's commitment to growth and development.
