In response to geopolitical disturbances affecting global fuel supplies, India's leading Oil Marketing Companies are ramping up Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) production to prioritize availability for domestic consumers. On Tuesday, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation jointly confirmed government interventions aimed at bolstering LPG supply through the Ministry's initiatives.

The measures include securing increased stocks for residential customers and essential non-domestic sectors. As geopolitical tensions continue to strain LPG supplies, a committee of three Executive Directors from the companies has been formed to assess and prioritize requests from other sectors, focusing primarily on urgent needs in hospitals and educational institutions.

In a strategic move to manage domestic energy demands, the Union Government invoked the Essential Commodities Act on Tuesday. This legislation mandates refineries and petrochemical industries to escalate LPG production and channel key hydrocarbon streams to ensure unhampered cooking gas availability nationwide. The Act also guarantees full domestic piped gas supply for homes and CNG for vehicles, while imposing calculated supply restrictions on other sectors based on their six-month consumption averages.
