Philippines Balances Diplomacy in the South China Sea

The Philippine foreign ministry announced on Friday its strategy to maintain an open line of communication with China, as the country intensifies its alliances with nations that share its perspective on the South China Sea. This approach aims to ensure diplomatic flexibility amid regional tensions.

Despite deepening partnerships with like-minded countries, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is committed to engaging in candid and constructive dialogues with China. This balanced diplomatic tactic is geared towards fostering practical cooperation and avoiding conflict in the contested maritime region.

Foreign ministry spokesperson Rogelio Villanueva emphasized the criticality of such dialogue in a recent briefing, stressing the importance of maintaining collaboration while fortifying international alliances.
