Air India Under Scrutiny: UK Calls for Detailed Report on Boeing Dreamliner Incident

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a request for clarification from Air India after one of its Boeing Dreamliner jets, suspected of having a malfunctioning fuel switch, departed from London. This demand is in response to regulatory concerns about the aircraft's safety, following its grounding in India for checks.

Air India has stated that it re-inspected the switches and found no issues. Nevertheless, the airline must provide a comprehensive response within a week to avoid potential regulatory consequences on its Boeing 787 fleet. The situation is particularly sensitive, as issues with fuel switches previously led to a fatal crash involving an Air India Dreamliner in Gujarat last year.

The Indian aviation authority noted that during an engine start in London, the fuel control switch failed to stay in the 'run' position twice. However, subsequent assessments ensured the plane's airworthiness. Still, the UK CAA is seeking a detailed report on the maintenance actions, alongside a root-cause analysis to prevent future occurrences.
