The historic India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA), unveiled by Prime Minister Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, is set to eliminate tariffs as soon as it takes effect. Dubbed the 'Mother of all Trade Deals,' this agreement was announced at the India-EU Summit on January 27, 2026.
Shri Shaleen Toshniwal, Chairman of MATEXIL, expressed gratitude towards Indian leadership for this consequential agreement amidst global trade challenges. He emphasized the EU's strategic significance and the FTA's role in fortifying bilateral relations.
Indian textile exporters, especially those dealing in manmade and technical textiles, are optimistic about the zero-duty access to the EU markets. Currently burdened by duties between 8% and 12%, the FTA is expected to enhance their competitiveness. MATEXIL plans to assist its members in leveraging the new opportunities created by the FTA.
