Vande Bharat Sleeper Train to Serve Non-Vegetarian Options
India's first Vande Bharat sleeper train, running between Howrah and Kamakhya, will soon include non-vegetarian options in its menu. India's flagship Vande Bharat sleeper train is set to enhance its menu by accommodating non-vegetarian food options, Eastern Railway officials confirmed on Tuesday. This decision responds to passenger feedback on the lack of such offerings.
The train, connecting Howrah and Kamakhya, commenced operations on January 22, closely following its launch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi just days earlier. The inclusion of non-vegetarian fare aims to celebrate regional specialties, incorporating Assamese flavors for departures from Kamakhya and West Bengal's culinary delights from Howrah.
Previously limited to vegetarian options, the menu update places Vande Bharat in line with other premium rail services like the Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express. Union Minister of State for Education, Sukanta Majumdar, confirmed Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's commitment to this enhancement, despite political disputes surrounding the issue.
