Kerala's Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, announced on Wednesday a significant increase in the monthly honorarium for ASHA workers, which will rise by Rs 1,000 starting November 1. This decision follows a protracted 250-day protest by the workers outside the state secretariat, where they demanded better compensation.
The state government also revealed plans to boost the minimum support price of rubber to Rs 200 per kilogram, up from the current Rs 180. This marks a continued upward trend in support prices, impacting the agricultural sector significantly.
The increased honorarium for ASHA workers will result in an additional annual expenditure of Rs 250 crore for Kerala. The workers have been demanding a raise in their state-paid honorarium from Rs 7,000 to Rs 21,000 and a post-retirement benefit of Rs 5 lakh.
