Air India Express, the low-cost carrier arm of Air India, is set to expand its fleet significantly next year, with plans to add between 20 and 24 new aircraft, according to Aloke Singh, the company's Managing Director, speaking at a recent event.
Currently, Air India's fleet comprises 110 planes with a blend of Airbus and Boeing models. Singh emphasized the company's strategy to amplify its presence in India's domestic market, which is growing more rapidly than its international operations.
The airline's primary focus will be on metro to tier 2 and tier 3 city routes, aiming for a one-third market share. With 80% of their domestic capacity already on such routes, the airline seeks to target leisure and value-conscious travelers, as well as the SME market.
