Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated two state-of-the-art 'Deep Sea Fishing Vessels' at Mazgaon Dock under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, marking a pivotal step in modernizing India's fishing industry. Speaking at the event, Shah emphasized that this initiative, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, is set to transform India's marine fisheries sector by fostering cooperative-based development in coastal regions.

Shah highlighted the government's commitment to 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' and the blue economy, explaining how cooperative fishing will allow the profits of the fisheries industry to be shared among the fishermen involved, rather than just paid employees. Initially, 14 trawlers will be distributed, with more planned in the future.

These new vessels, capable of staying at sea for 25 days and transporting up to 20 tons of fish, are equipped with comfortable living facilities. Shah also mentioned future plans for processing, exports, and coordination through large ships, aiming to empower fishermen economically and enhance their livelihoods along India's vast coastline.
