In a significant move for India's clean energy sector, Honda Motor Co. Ltd. has strategically invested in OMC Power, a distributed renewable energy firm. This partnership is set to accelerate the creation of a 1 GWp clean energy portfolio in collaboration with Honda's technological prowess and OMC's grassroots energy transition expertise.
OMC Power co-founder and CEO Rohit Chandra stated that the partnership marks a transformative phase for the company. By incorporating innovative energy storage solutions into distributed energy systems, the alliance aims to support local innovation and energy security, aligning with India's Make in India and Aatma Nirbhar Bharat visions.
Through this venture, both companies will repurpose Honda's detachable batteries from electric vehicles for stationary applications. The batteries will provide energy solutions to remote schools, clinics, and telecom towers. The model is expected to launch by 2026, extending the lifecycle of EV batteries and paving the way for new business opportunities in India's electric mobility sector.
