A SkyWest flight en route from Omaha, Nebraska, to Los Angeles was forced to make an unexpected return for an emergency landing. This decision was made due to a communication error that led pilots to suspect an attempted cockpit breach.
The mishap occurred shortly after take-off from Omaha's Eppley Airfield around 7:45 pm. The pilots declared an emergency when they couldn't communicate effectively with the crew, prompting concerns over the plane's security.
A subsequent investigation revealed the issue stemmed from the flight crew's microphone being left on by mistake, which caused unintended communication problems. After the emergency protocols were downgraded, the flight successfully resumed its journey to Los Angeles.
