In a bold move to expand India's AI capabilities, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced a new subsea cable initiative designed to improve AI connectivity between key global locations, including India and the US. Speaking at the AI Impact Summit 2026, Pichai highlighted India's potential to become a global leader in AI technology. He noted the transformative impact AI could have across sectors like healthcare, education, and climate resilience. Google's investment includes skilling programs for 20 million public servants, aimed at expanding AI expertise across the nation.
In partnership with Atal Tinkering Labs, Google plans to introduce generative AI assistance in over 10,000 Indian schools, impacting 11 million students. These initiatives underscore Google's commitment to fostering AI advancements and broadening access to cutting-edge technologies in India. As Pichai remarked, AI represents the biggest platform shift of our era, and India is poised to take full advantage of it.
